machinery landscapes archives and reconstructs the vanishing landscape of Euljiro, Seoul. For centuries, small factories and specialized artisans in this historic industrial district have sustained Korea’s manufacturing ecosystem, yet the area now faces forced demolition under urban redevelopment.
The work is constructed from field recordings captured on-site across print shops, metal workshops, alleyway eateries, and other local environments, manipulating linear temporal structures and stratifying them across a spatialized acoustic space to weave multifaceted narratives. By reconstituting these disappearing physical apparatuses into a new assemblage of immaterial sound, the piece suggests an alternate form of spatial existence that persists beyond physical extinction.
《machinery landscapes》는 서울 을지로의 사라져가는 풍경을 기록하고 재구성한다. 이곳에서는 수백 년간 수많은 노동자와 기계가 엉켜 호흡해왔다. 현재는 거대한 도시 계획 속에서 강제 철거를 통한 소멸의 운명을 마주하고 있다.
인쇄소의 기계음과 금속 장인들의 망치 소리까지, 그 사이 흘러나오는 라디오 음악과 골목 식당의 취사 소리까지. 현장에서 수집한 필드 레코딩을 질료 삼아 선형적 시간축을 조작하고 3차원 음향 공간에 걸쳐 다층화한다. 이를 통해 사라져가는 물리적 기계들을 비물질적 소리의 새로운 회집체로 재구성함으로써, 물리적 소멸을 넘어 지속되는 공간의 또 다른 존재 형식을 제안한다.
